A new training program for telephone interviewers was introduced at Statistics Iceland in 2009. The program is mainly based on the principles of standardized survey interviewing which is supposed to increase the homogeneity of interviews taken by different interviewers. By comparing interviewer coefficient correlations (ICC) for selected variables in the EU-SILC and ICT datasets from the years 2008 and 2009 it is possible to examine if the training program was successful in reducing interviewer effects. The interviewer training program was revised in 2010 and a special refusal training was added with the aim of reducing the refusal rates of interviewers. Trends of refusal rates in EU-SILC and ICT will be presented to assess the effectiveness of the refusal training.
