Over the 2009-2010 period, Statistics Finland will start to publish its statistics comprehensively with a new FastWeb-XML-based system suited for multi-channel publishing. With the introduction of the new system, the availability of information offered free on the Internet will become clearly widened. At the same time, changes are being made into the distribution of data contents between different publishing formats. In connection with the renewal of the publishing system, the publishing practices of each set of statistics have been examined in detail while appreciating the extent to which given data contents should be released, the optimal presentation mode and format for each entity, and the appropriate distribution of the data between web publishing and databases.

The change of the publishing system will affect the number of published tables and their distribution into different dissemination channels on the release date. On the release date, the basic publication released on the Internet will contain some of the tables, while others will be contained in a closely connected database service. The renewal of the system will also affect the use of graphics in publications. The objective is to develop new tools to produce even higher quality software-based graphics.

In some cases, the examination of the basic statistical releases will also affect the releasing frequency of statistics and the differentiation of their contents.

In addition to the contents of basic publications, consideration has been given to their contents in the renewal project in relation to those of other publishing modes and services.
