The Icelandic Survey on Wages, Earnings and Labour Cost (ISWEL) is the main source for statistics on wages, earnings and labour cost in Iceland and is used for various purposes, both locally and internationally. The data is collected directly from the enterprises' pay-roll software. Contracts have been signed with the leading software developers to develop and maintain an application for ISWEL.
The survey, which was introduced at the Nordic Statistical Conference in Abo 2004, is under constant development. Main emphasis in the development of the data collection is to minimize the response burden of the enterprises and make the process more efficient so there will be less working hours without reducing data quality.
For now three main issues are being improved. Firstly, secure single point entry submission of data is being developed. Secondly, ways to reduce time in quality checks by implementing more automatic processes are being developed. And lastly, means to use other administrative data along with the ISWEL survey are being explored.
