Income and consumption distribution in the household sector (experimental statistics)
The national accounts and the consumption survey are carried out according to guidelines from the European statistical office Eurostat. Comparable figures are published by Eurostat. The distributional figures are still experimental in both Eurostat and Denmark.
Comparability - geographical
The preparation of the National Accounts and the consumption survey are based on international guidelines and it is therefore possible to compare with other countries that also follow these guidelines. Every five years, Eurostat publishes the individual countries' consumption surveys in their statistics bank. The distributional figures are still experimental in both Eurostat and Denmark.
Comparability over time
The statistics are experimental and published for the first time. Data in the period are comparable for both the national accounts and the consumption survey, which is why these statistics are also comparable over time. Electricity meter data is the only source that has improved over time, as more households have signed up to Smart Meters.
Coherence - cross domain
The consumption classification is based on the international ECOICOP classification, which is also used in the Consumer Price Index and the national accounts. As far as possible, the aim is to use the same classifications in the consumption survey as in the national accounts, with a few necessary differences.
Coherence - internal
The consumption survey is based on three data sources, interviews, accounting and registers. A great deal of work is done to ensure that the register information used is consistent and valid in relation to linking it to the interview and the accounting information.
